Position summary
Under the direction of the Site Quality Lead and with the objective of maintaining high quality standards of the product manufacturing process and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Administers Quality Engineers in day-to-day activities supporting Breast Implant Business Unit has adequate quality support, documentation review. Supervises (dotted line) other Quality Engineers that are located at the site but report to above site organizations (e.g. Supplier Quality Engineer).
Support projects, process / equipment and new product introductions or upgrading of existing processes / equipment and products and subsequent qualifications.
Responsibilities
- Under limited supervision and in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws / regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position :
- Directs and administers the activities of Quality Engineers, Supplier Quality Engineer
- Carries out leading responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws including regarding health and safety.
- Evaluates and recommends staffing requirements to ensure maximum utilization of personnel to fulfill department objectives.
- Approves purchases and expense reports submitted by direct reports.
- Ensures that the quality aspects for new processes, products and or upgrading of existing processes and products and subsequent IQ, OQ’s and PQ’s are met.
- Supports / Initiates investigations for non-conformances.
- Approves specification and process changes per applicable procedures.
- Provides feedback to operations on problems related to quality and / or compliance.
- Supports Operations in evaluation and implementation of actions plans to eliminate root causes of non-conformances.
- Supports Validations as required
- Supports internal audit programs
- Promotes the use of Process Excellence tools to enhance analytical thinking and problem-solving techniques.
- Provides support to plant wide initiatives such as implementation of new initiatives safety, environmental and Quality related initiatives.
- Supports and promotes the safety and industrial hygiene objectives of the plant.
- Initiates and maintains interplant communications of quality issues.
- Supports on-going continuing efforts and projects to improve our manufacturing Quality Systems, processes.
- Supports and promotes cost savings opportunities that work toward global objectives in the organization.
- Fosters teamwork and supports total associate involvement.
- Actively supports other plant functions in the implementation of company programs and projects.
- Enforces, promotes and observes all safety, industrial hygiene rules and regulations established by the Company.
- Participates and supports safety initiatives within the facility, such as emergency response, ergonomics, safe behavior program, etc.
- Is aware of, and complies with, Company policies on Safety.
- Reports accidents, incidents, near misses, and hazardous situations in a timely manner and participates in the corrective action process.
- Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Budget control within the departments Quality Engineering
- Performances appraisals for direct reports.
- Recommends salary increases for direct reports.
- Performs Annual Performance appraisals for the identified associates. Establish objectives and development plans for direct reports or applicable processes.
- Interviewing, hiring, planning, assigning & directing work, mentoring, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, resolving problems and issues.
- Recommends promotions for direct subordinates and interview applicants for job openings.
- Trains, coaches and develops direct reports and Quality Operations function
- Develops the area (compliance, new technologies, lean) Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level
- Responsible for ensuring that subordinates follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition, if applicable
- Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures
- Performs other duties assigned as needed
- University / Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in engineering, science, mathematics or statistics or equivalent is required.
- Generally, a minimum of eight years related manufacturing experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is desired;
- Demonstrated knowledge of good manufacturing principles and practices, and procedures;
- Supervisory Skills experience.
- CQE certification, Six Sigma Blackbelt or Greenbelt certifications are preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, able to quickly build credibility within the company and the executive management.
- Proven track record of demonstrating collaboration across the organization and at all levels
- Balanced technical understanding of products and processes combined with superior business and compliance acumen
- Mathematical skills : Able to apply mathematical concepts, such as exponents, logarithms,
- Probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of other mathematical disciplines. Able to apply mathematical operations to tasks such as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity and sampling theory.
- Ability to define and resolve problems. Collect data and analyze data, establish facts and draw scientifically valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
