Opto-Electronics Engineer

We are seeking an Opto-Electronics Engineer to work on our Customers Site (ESA-ESTEC) in the Netherlands. This is a fantastic opportunity to get into one of the most sought-after space agencies in the world.

Main Responsibilities

As Opto-Electronics Engineer you will concentrate your activities on the following :

• Define, design, and analyse performance budgets for optical and quantum communication test set-ups.
• Procure and commission technical parts and devices for laboratory use.
• Assemble, verify, and maintain opto-electronic test setups.
• Develop laboratory hardware control software (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, Python).
• Independently carry out optical tests on components and systems, including lasers, detectors, high-speed communication equipment (above 100 Gbps) and digital signal processing (DSP) systems.
• Provide expert technical support to ESA projects and studies for opto-electronic components and subsystems, across all project phases.
• Support the development, testing, verification and calibration of opto-electronic technologies and subsystems.
• Define and oversee on-ground test and calibration activities as well as in-orbit commissioning of instruments.
• Evaluate procurement proposals and provide technical recommendations.
