Job Profile

Help us operationalize our already developed Living Income Model. This model calculates the income of each farmer and compares it with living income benchmarks used in the industry, to do this we leverage farm-level data about the agronomic practices of farmers, their finances, and their socioeconomic characteristics.

ofi is a global leader in the cocoa business and the highly competitive sector of sustainable cocoa trading. ofi is committed to be carbon neutral by 2030 and is leading the industry in setting ambitious commitments to help farmers achieve living income and eliminate deforestation in our entire supply chain. We are looking for an intern to support us in leveraging powerful data-based insights for the living income component of our sustainability agenda. At ofi we have built one the largest and most compelling cocoa farmer datasets in the world, containing multi-dimensional agronomic, socio-economic, and geographic data. As intern, you will help leveraging this rich data to generate powerful insights that will support our strategic approach with cocoa farmers worldwide. You will learn from our multi-disciplinary team of experts spread across the Europe, Africa, Latin America, and Asia and you will have the opportunity to access and analyze one of the most compelling datasets in the sector.

Your responsibilities

You will directly support the Sustainability and Productivity Research Manager and the Living Income expert of the Cocoa Sustainability department in the following activities :

  • Gathering, customizing, cleaning, and analyzing selected data from the Olam Farmer Information System (OFIS).
  • Use data exploratory and visualization methods to find trends and hotspots across socioeconomic and agronomic data points linked to sustainability metrics.
  • Help us implement the calculations of our already developed Living Income Model

  • We are searching for a candidate passionate about the power of data and with a strong interest on commodity value chains of the agriculture sector. Ideally you have a basic understanding of the dynamics at play in smallholder farming system, or you are eager to learn about it with us. You have a strong interest in the interplay of socioeconomic and environmental factors. Ultimately, you must have the confidence and enthusiasm to pursue a career in the quantitative analytics and corporate sustainability!

    Your Qualifications

  • Be enrolled or have recently graduated from a Master program in a quantitative research field such as statistics, environmental econometrics, applied mathematics, environmental sciences, agronomy, or ecology.
  • Feel comfortable with and be passionate to learn more about quantitative data analysis and statistics.
  • Have at least a basic command of one analytical programing language (e.g., R, phyton) and enthusiasm to learn more.
  • Feel comfortable working in a multicultural and diverse environment.
  • Have good command of English language.
  • You are proactive, autonomous, responsible, and results focused.
  • Will be a big advantage :

  • Skills for interactive web app development (e.g., R shiny and leaflet applications).
  • Have some experience in conducting quantitative scientific research.
