Do you get excited about designing and creating hardware that makes our Tacx indoor At Tacx (part of Garmin), we don’t just build smart indoor cycling trainers — we build systems that move people. Our products combine advanced power electronics, motor control, wireless communication, and precision sensors. We’re looking for an Electronics Design Engineer who wants more than a task list — someone who thrives on solving complex problems, spotting opportunities for improvement, and shaping how we work as a team.

The Engineering and R&D department

Our product electrical engineering team is a small, fast-growing team of professionals who are responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the hardware for all the smart trainer products that Tacx makes. In this position you are part of our Engineering department, consisting of Mechanical, Electrical, and Software Engineers. You will work in close cooperation with other engineers to design and develop products at our office and manufacturing facility in Oegstgeest.

Aside from all your local coworkers, you’ll work together with international colleagues from different kinds of disciplines all over the world. You will report to our Electrical Engineering Team Lead.

What are your main tasks and responsibilities?

  • Work closely with firmware, mechanical, and product teams to define clear electrical specs and system architecture.
  • Own the MCU-level design of new products, including pinout, power domains, and peripheral integration (RT555, Synaptics, Nordic).
  • Design and analyze :
  • Power converters (buck, boost, flyback)
  • Motor drivers and electromagnetic brake systems
  • Analog sensing circuits and signal paths
  • Develop schematics and PCB layouts in Cadence OrCAD with a strong focus on EMC performance.
  • Drive testing, validation, and early bring-up of prototypes, with a critical eye for improvement.
  • Lead and contribute to process improvement initiatives, including test coverage, documentation, part reuse, and communication flow.
  • Collaborate globally with teams in Olathe (US) and Taiwan for layout, manufacturing, and product delivery.
  • Participate in sprint planning and JIRA-based workflows, with full visibility and shared accountability.

What we’re really looking for

You'll join a high-trust team where engineers take ownership, challenge the status quo, and help raise the bar, technically and culturally :

  • Someone who thinks in systems and wants to understand how hardware fits into the bigger product experience.
  • Someone who’s proactive, you see problems before they grow, raise the right flags, and propose smart fixes.
  • Someone who wants to improve how we do things, not just what we do — from design practices to documentation to test strategy.
  • Someone who’s hands-on, excited to go from simulation to scope to soldering iron — and iterate.
  • Core Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Strong analog and power electronics experience : MOSFET drivers, op-amps, current sensing.
  • DC-DC converter design, motor control, and low-voltage power systems.
  • Cadence OrCAD proficiency (schematic & layout), with proven EMC-aware design.
  • Communication protocol experience : SPI, I2C, UART, RS232.
  • Fluent in English, strong communicator and team player.
  • What makes this role unique :

  • Your designs will be built at scale — tens or even hundreds of thousands of units , with in-house mass manufacturing (Taiwan).
  • You’ll benefit from Garmin’s global electrical engineering ecosystem, getting in-depth design feedback from a worldwide network of expert engineers.
  • Bonus Points

  • Familiarity with IEC 60335 and fault-safe system design.
  • Previous experience working with international manufacturing teams.
  • A passion for sports, performance tech, or cycling.
  • A track record of initiating change, whether through tooling, design systems, or process.
  • What we offer you?

We offer you the opportunity to contribute to the ambitions and success of a globally growing company. You will share your passion and engage in ambitious and challenging projects. While using your skills you will have a direct impact on our current focus and future direction.

Besides a competitive salary, 27 holiday days a year, holiday allowance and a performance bonus we also offer flexible working hours, training opportunities, a good pension plan and attention for personal development. In addition, you have the option to participate in the Garmin stock program and receive an attractive reduction on Tacx and Garmin products. All present in an inspiring, diverse, multicultural and sporty work environment. For the right candidate who is not living close to our Oegstgeest office, we offer relocation support

Do you want to work at Tacx, a Garmin company?

If you feel excited by being part of this inspiring and sporty work environment and you think your personal skills and professional qualities match the job requirements, we look forward to receiving your job application, together with a Curriculum Vitae.
