Freelance EE / ME Sustaining Engineer

On Time Engineers is searching for a Freelance Sustaining Engineer for our client in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

Duration : 6 months and possibility to extend.

Location : ‘s-Hertogenbosch, 2-4 days per week from the office + rest remote.

About the position

As a Senior Sustaining Engineer, your role is to ensure the continuous success of our clients' products post-launch. Focusing on the electrical and mechanical dimensions of their offerings, you will be the key driver in addressing and rectifying both production and field issues. Your expertise will be vital in liaising with our clients' contract manufacturers and bridging the gap between them and their internal engineering departments. Your primary aim is to maintain and elevate the quality, reliability, and industrialization efficiency of products on an electrical and mechanical engineering level throughout their life-cycle.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Diagnose, own, and resolve electrical and mechanical issues emerging from production and field deployments;
Engage directly with contract manufacturers to understand, analyze, and address manufacturing challenges and inefficiencies;
Manage and update product structures, ensuring accurate implementation of changes within the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system;
Function as the main engineering liaison for intricate investigations, ensuring smooth communication and partnership with internal engineering teams;
Partner with the Quality Assurance (QA) team to glean insights on product quality, customer feedback, and pinpoint areas of enhancement;
Foster a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring insights from production and field issues are channeled into new designs;
Together with the Product Realization Lead, act as a key player in ensuring efficient industrialization of new products, bridging the design and manufacturing aspects;
Drive initiatives to optimize manufacturing processes, ensuring consistency and quality in mass production;
Cultivate robust relationships with contract manufacturers, internal teams, and other stakeholders;
Maintain effective communication, especially when navigating production hurdles or integrating new products;
Undertake regular visits to contract manufacturer locations to establish rapport, understand production challenges firsthand and instigate improvements;
Participate in on-the-ground reviews, audits, and troubleshooting sessions.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

Minimum Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or related fields (experience with Mechanical Engineering is desired);

5-8 years of relevant engineering experience, particularly in consumer electronics, with significant exposure to post-launch product lifecycle, electrical / mechanical troubleshooting, and manufacturing;

Demonstrable experience with contract manufacturers and adeptness in addressing production intricacies;

In-depth knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems in consumer electronics;

Acumen in troubleshooting and problem-solving within a production framework;

Proficiency in QA processes and methodologies;

Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills;

Experience in the industrialization of products and understanding the challenges and nuances of the transition from design to production;

Experience in managing product structures and implementing updates and changes using a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
