Do you want to be responsible for custom made engineering projects in the maritime industry? And are you ready to push engineering boundaries? We would like to meet you!

Vuyk Engineering Rotterdam is looking for a lead engineer equipment design. In this role you’re responsible from the first engineering concepts till delivery of the engineering packages while staying point of contact during production / manufacturing.

Since all our projects are one-off, you’re already involved in the sales / estimation process to determine the client requests and translate them to proposals / estimations taking risks, planning and budgets into account. During the engineering phase you are responsible for making concepts, designs and engineering models as well as calculations (hand-, excel and FEM) for all types of heavy equipment. You will be managing other engineers and designers during the projects while being point of contact towards our clients.

The job is focused on engineering where you’ll be spending about 60 / 70% of your time on, but contact with our clients is also an important part of the job. Because our projects are multidiscipline, you’ll cooperate with our other engineering departments as well.

There are multiple projects running at once and with your team you’ll work on specialized equipment projects for offshore, dredging, subsea, renewable and heavy lifting projects.

Responsibilities Lead Engineer Equipment Design

Sales) Meetings with clients and make estimations, budgets and planning
Lead a multidiscipline team of engineers and designers during the project
Making all types of calculations like hand-, excel- and FEM calculations
Making design models with CAD software like Autocad and Solid Edge based on your calculations
Discuss progress with your clients, project team and department manager

Your experience

Bachelor or University level in Mechanical Engineering or comparable

Multiple years’ of experience within heavy equipment designs and concepts

Experience with FEM and design software, preferably Ansys and Inventor / Solid Edge

Able to manage a multidiscipline engineeringteam

Good communication skills and experience with client contacts

Excellent skills in English and preferably Dutch
