Immersion Engineer

We are looking for an immersion Engineer for the 20km long Fehmarn Belt Tunnel Project (Danmark). As an immersion engineer, you will participate in the team responsible for floating up and / or hoisting the approx. 90 concrete tunnel elements, equipping them in the port and then transporting and installing them at sea. In a first phase you will participate in the preparation of this crucial operation, by making ballast plans e.g. In a second phase, you will be part of the operational team that does the immersion work, by going offshore and assist the Immersion Master by giving technical advice.

Immersion engineering is taking care of all calculations regarding :

• Tunnel elements float up (weight analysis, determine ballast concrete and water, longitudinal section forces, floating stability)
• Transfers in basins and harbour (winch operations with or without vessel assistance)
• Mooring of the tunnel elements
• Transport to offshore location
• Immersion (including but not limited to dynamic analyses)
• And the stability of the elements after immersion.

This is what you are prepared to do in Denmark (full time or in 4-2 rotation).

The construction of the Femern Belt Tunnel is one of Europe’s largest infrastructure projects of this decennium, and will become the world’s largest immersed tunnel. The combined road and rail tunnel connecting Denmark and Germany has a total length of 18km, is 9m high, has a width of 43m and will boost trade and tourism in Northern Europe. Almost every detail of this project has a size which is never seen before. Would you like to play a crucial role in the immersion process of the 90 elements, each with a length of 217meter?

You’re located in Denmark. For your daily supervision you can rely on the project team in Denmark and on the design team from BAM Infraconsult based in The Netherlands. BAM Infraconsult is the Engineering Company of BAM Infra with 250 employees in several fields. The Maritime department (20 FTE) is a very experienced department with multiple senior advisors involved in several immersion tunnelling projects over the last decades.
