The challenge
In this position you will be part of a multidisciplinary project team and work on a variety of projects within the unit Airports. Together with your colleagues you will immerse yourself in all the ins and outs of the field. You are the expert when it comes to apron design on airfields and know exactly how these should be designed to be safe and efficient. With your technical knowledge and experience you will contribute to achieving the objectives of our large Airport clients such as Schiphol.
Your responsibilities include :
- Define and simulate various options to find the best possible configuration and apron layout.
- Work closely with airports, airlines and ground handlers in the development of the projects.
- Write reports and specifications and model the design.
- Be always updated on the latest technology and regulations with regard to apron operations.

We are working to create : Pressure is mounting on Schiphol to reduce the number of flights. The airport therefore started looking for new ways to expand capacity. With aircraft stands for larger aircraft, Schiphol can reduce the number of flights without sacrificing passenger numbers. Making the existing aircraft stands suitable for use by larger aircraft requires creativity and a thorough knowledge of aircraft handling.We have worked to ensure safe and efficient handling of . Abu Dhabi Airports Company is responsible for providing world-class service at this home base of Etihad Airways now and in the years to come. The 650,000 m2 complex is equipped with numerous installations and has more than 50 stands to handle the influx of nearly 40 million passengers per year. Deerns designed the communication, passenger handling and security systems in the terminal, plus the systems on the aprons, which enable safe and efficient handling of aircraft and passengers.We are working to make Schiphol more sustainable by introducing chargers and electrical apron equipment at the stands. This allows to replace the current diesel-driven GSE and the use of APU at the stand, achieving the reduction of fossil fuels and the reduction of air pollution. This leads to lower CO2 emissions and a better working environment for the staff running the operation.The team
The unit Airports currently consists of project managers, mechanical and electrical engineers and airport system specialists. Altogether a diverse team of about 24 people of different ages. You will be part of the team working on special airports systems, both for Schiphol and for international projects which includes working together with our colleagues in Italy.
This is you
You have a technical background on BSc / MSc level (Mechanical / Electrical or similar such as Aerospace engineering).You have experience in airport design with a focus on apron and stand design and know how to write design reports and specifications.Knowledge of aircraft handling and the operation on the apron / stand.You have experience working with of for Airports in design stages.Aviplan and Autocad are programs you have worked with before.Finally, you are an excellent communicator in English.
