Job description

The challenge

Work on a 2-year post-master's degree with a focus on technological design, including an educational component and a design project with ASPARi network companies. Develop a computer vision system to monitor the physical and mechanical properties of asphalt layers during construction. By project completion, we aim to develop a working prototype that : (1) generates a structured visual dataset (RGB, thermal, and point cloud images), (2) processes and synthesizes data into actionable information for operators to assess compaction quality and plan next steps, and (3) endures the challenging conditions of asphalt construction sites. Successfully completing the project will significantly enhance the ASPARi methodology.

The mission

Develop a functional prototype that creates a time-stamped, georeferenced visual dataset with RGB, thermal, and point cloud images. The system should be mountable on asphalt equipment, plug-and-play, capable of real-time data processing, and tested on construction sites.

Your profile

  • We seek MSc graduates with a background in sensor fusion, positioning systems, and / or computer vision.
  • Knowledge of real-time systems and operator support systems is advantageous.
  • Strong Dutch and English language skills, communication, teamwork, initiative, and problem-solving are essential.
  • Prior knowledge in road design and construction is beneficial.

Our offer

  • We offer a very challenging position for two years in an inspiring multidisciplinary and international environment.
  • salary of € 2618 gross per month;
  • a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary and a year-end bonus of 8.3%;
  • solid pension scheme;
  • Minimum of 29 holidays in case of full-time employment.
  • A tailor-made post-master design program that has an educational component (~50%) as well as a design project (~50%);
  • On completing the program, you will receive a certified degree. You will be entitled to use the academic degree EngD and will be registered as a Technological Designer in the Dutch register kept by the Royal Institution of Engineers in the Netherlands (KIVI).
  • Information and application

    Please send your application, with a curriculum vitae, a list with grades of courses attended, references and, if applicable, a list of publications you may have done. An interview will be part of the selection process. The application deadline is 15 November 2023.

    The interviews will take place in week 48 / 49.
