THE ROLE
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will play a hands-on leadership role, overseeing daily operations while actively contributing to technical tasks. You will guide and mentor team members, ensuring tasks and project deadlines are met. Additionally, you will collaborate with stakeholders to optimize workflows and system performance, adhering to IT policies, corporate guidelines, business strategies, and regulations. You will build coalitions internally and with other (inter)national Damen entities and external suppliers to achieve common goals. You will work with HPE / DELL Servers running on Linux or Windows OSs, including implementing IT security measures and hardening. Your role will encompass both hands-on tasks in our on-premises environments as well as directing our private cloud environments, hosted by service providers. Your efforts will ensure IT objectives are met, and the business operates securely and efficiently.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
In this role, your responsibilities will include :
- Guide and mentor the Infrastructure team to deliver quality IT products and services on time, focusing on a secure environment for Defense Maritime Projects.
- Execute and support daily operations, providing advice and planning for a productive, cohesive team.
- Deliver and maintain service levels to the business.
- Manage the performance of technology and infrastructure based on IT policies and high-security business requirements.
- Plan, develop, implement, and support the technical infrastructure, hardware, and system software components.
- Develop improvement initiatives, convince stakeholders and budget holders of their necessity, and guide implementation.
- Exhibit persuasion skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications :
Minimum of 7 years of experience in IT infrastructure lead engineering or a similar role.Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Equivalent professional experience may also be considered.Proficiency in IT infrastructure and systems, with a comprehensive understanding of security protocols, network management, and automation processes.Strong leadership and team-supporting abilities, with experience in professionalizing and guiding teams.Experience with IT Architecture methodologies (TOGAF and Archimate) and willingness to work closely with the IT Architecture department.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to address and resolve IT issues.Good command of the Dutch and English languages (written and verbal).Willingness and flexibility to travel internationally and work abroad.Hands-on experience in the design, implementation, and support of complex IT systems and infrastructure is preferred in different areas of expertise, amongst which are :Hypervisor solutions from VMWare and / or Nutanix and / or Oracle Linux Virtualization ManagerMicrosoft Active Directory environments both on-premises and online (Azure AD)Identity Access Management, Multi-Factor Authentication and federation e.g. ADFSPKI setup and Certificate ManagementKey Management Systems (KMS)Hardware Security Modules (HSM)Observability product suites e.g. LanSweeperMilitary grade encryption solutionsExternal Datacenter and Hosting service suppliersExcellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required.
