Scope of Role :
Reporting to the Group Head of Procurement, the Senior Procurement Manager performs a variety of functions. Primary responsibility is to work alongside the Group Head of Procurement, to ensure that all procurement activities are carried out to the highest standards. To help build a best-in-class Procurement function, bringing more consistency and vendor relationship management to Mercury. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of all spend categories with a particular focus on Supplier Relationship Management. Knowledge of the Construction Industry would be an advantage. Excellent market & supplier knowledge and best practice using most appropriate sourcing methods.
Key Responsibilities :
- Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers capable of meeting quality, compliance, and cost requirements for the business.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, conducting regular business reviews and ensuring adherence to contractual obligations.
- Negotiate contracts and pricing agreements, leveraging volume discounts and long-term partnerships while managing risks associated with supply continuity.
- Monitor economic and geopolitical factors that may impact construction materials.
- Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, such as shortages, quality issues, or disruptions in the market.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards, such as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Provide accurate and concise information to the Group Head of Procurement that can be utilised to make strategic decisions.
- Conduct internal and external analysis, engaging effectively with internal and external stakeholders to determine optimum value creation opportunities for the categories e.g., sourcing strategies, process improvements, renegotiation strategies, dispute resolution etc.
- Supplier Management : Oversee Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) and regular supplier reviews for all strategic suppliers to meet program Quality / Cost / Delivery targets.
- Lead quarterly reviews with key suppliers, while ensuring creation of supplier profiles for all SRM suppliers.
- Implement Procurement strategy on Agreements & Rebates with Supply Chain.
- Lead the sustainability initiative across the Division.
- Lead implementation and continuous improvement of ERP based procurement and material Management (Cradle to grave).
- Provide leadership and strategic direction.
- Perform other duties as assigned by line manager.
- Background within strategic procurement in the Construction industry.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and deliver results within deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to communicate standards to other staff members and internal customers.
- Minimum of 8 years’ work experience in a similar role.
- Experience in Category Management.
- Ability to prioritize workload efficiently, work on own initiative.
- Process and procedure driven.
- Proficiency in using procurement software, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and data analysis tools.
- Ability to travel as required.
- A third level qualification preferably in supply chain or other related discipline.
