Wärtsilä is a world leader in marine technology and leading the industry's transformation towards a decarbonised and sustainable future. With the world’s widest portfolio and service network, we – Wärtsilians - deliver efficient, safe and sustainable integrated products and solutions to enhance the business of our customers. The opportunities presented through digitalisation and new technologies are offering a new era of shipping. Did you know that shipping is the world’s most efficient mode of transportation and that approximately 80% of world trade is carried by sea?
We want to change the course towards an interconnected and cleaner maritime future and are constantly on the lookout for future-oriented talent to join our team and to work towards enabling sustainable societies through innovation in technology and services - together. Are you ready to jump onboard?
We are now looking for a
Senior) Asset Diagnostics Engineer
Engineer who’s interested in data analyses in order to predict maintenance.”
to join our team.
The preferred location for the position is in Drunen, The Netherlands.
What you will be doing
As an (Senior) Asset Diagnostics Engineer, you are responsible to perform vibration analysis for rotating equipment, oil analysis, control system- and hydraulic- performance analysis. This data analysis is supported by an advanced automated decision support system. The decision support system assists in identifying potential failures, whereby you will focus on resolving issues in close contact with the customer. All information determines the condition of the propulsion equipment in order to predict when maintenance should be performed.
What do you do as an Asset Diagnostics Expert in our Propulsion Expertise Centre? Let us try to give you an example of a typical working day.
The day starts with a fresh cup of coffee and starting up the analysis tools to check if there are any issues on the vessels, we have under contract of our condition monitoring service. You see immediately an orange flag indicating an increasing trend for the contamination levels of the lubrication oil of one of the thrusters of the world’s biggest semi-submersible heavy lifting vessels. Together with a thruster expert, you define the most suitable recommended actions for the crew to verify the situation on-board and ensure the thrusters can operate in optimal condition.
After a lunch walk, you have some supporting activities on the agenda. A sales support engineer is in the process of offering a monitoring system for a cruise customer with multiple rotating equipment on-board. He needs an expert’s opinion on the most optimal scope for a system to offer. Afterwards, you will validate the agreed-on system with one of our suppliers for feasibility.
The last days of the week you will join a “Hydraulic System” training to gain more knowledge on the hydraulic auxiliary systems we deliver with our propulsion equipment. This is needed to understand the relation between the data that is obtained and the behaviour of the vessels. This is also a good opportunity to discuss with colleagues from other departments to gain more understanding of the business and different Wärtsilä working environments.
You are part of our global Marine Expertise Centre function which operates from multiple locations, among which in Drunen in The Netherlands, Vaasa in Finland, and Fort Lauderdale in the US. We provide advanced services that enhance the business of our customers by improving efficiency, reliability, availability and optimizing maintenance logistics, while continuously improving our Monitoring Services to benefit both Wärtsilä’s customers and the environment.
Our Propulsion Expertise Centre provides services for Wärtsilä’ s global propulsion equipment portfolio comprising of Steerable- and Transverse Thrusters, Controllable Pitch Propellers, Reduction Gears, Electric Pods and Water Jets. You will report to our Asset Diagnostic Manager, Propulsion.
