Appointment of Lector (Research Professor) at the Academy of Architecture
Would you like to develop a research group in the disciplines of architecture, urban planning, and landscape architecture? Can you provide substantive direction for research on climate change and spatial design? Do you get excited about linking education with research, and are you able to collaborate with other professors at the Amsterdam University of the Arts to shape the joint research profile?
The Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam is looking for a professor to lead a new research group focusing on the relationship between spatial design and climate change. This research group is both interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary. It is interdisciplinary because it covers the three disciplines in which the Academy of Architecture offers master's programs : architecture, urban planning, and landscape architecture. It is transdisciplinary because the research group seeks collaboration with scientific disciplines relevant to spatial issues related to climate change. This role requires a person with a passion for research at the intersection of theory and practice and experience in leadership.

The Lectorate
The Lectorate emerged from the realization that climate change poses challenges to the way buildings, cities, and landscapes are designed and realized. The construction sector significantly contributes to climate problems (for example, through the environmental burden of producing building materials and the enormous amount of waste generated by construction and demolition activities). However, the spatial design sector can also help address the spatial problems that climate change brings. The Lectorate aims to contribute to creating buildings, cities, and landscapes that have a positive impact on their natural environment through the initiation, development, and execution of practice-oriented research. Topics that may be addressed include ecosystems, climate justice, and future generations.
The Lectorate is led by the director of the Academy of Architecture and supported (in areas such as quality assurance and project grant applications) by the AHK Research Centre. The common research profile of AHK is "engagement through critical creative practice" and includes three themes : social engagement, ways of knowing, and regeneration and climate. The Lectorate at the Academy of Architecture primarily relates to the latter theme. Ideally, the lectorate will act as a catalyst in questioning the role of spatial design disciplines in climate change. This can be done, for example, through design research, research focused on the spatial and material processes underlying climate change, or research aimed at addressing the spatial consequences of climate change.
Profile
You are an expert in the field of climate change, climate justice, regenerative design, ecosystems, legislation, or public administration (as it pertains to the spatial domain) and have experience or an affinity with architecture, urban planning, or landscape architecture. While you do not necessarily have a design background yourself, you possess the relevant theoretical knowledge to critically reflect on spatial design. You hold a PhD and have a relevant (international) network and scientific qualifications.
