(Senior) Data Engineer

At Valcon, we are looking for a Senior Data Engineer who not only brings technical expertise but also has the ability to guide junior team members and elevate the team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and optimizing data infrastructures and driving innovation within our dynamic engineering team.

Tasks

What are you going to do?

As a Senior Data Engineer at Valcon, you will lead end-to-end data engineering projects, from requirements gathering to implementing and delivering technical solutions. You will develop and optimize data pipelines and architectures for ETL / ELT processes, ensuring efficient and reliable data flow.

Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will work closely with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to align technical solutions with organizational goals. You will ensure scalability and performance of data solutions handling large volumes of structured and unstructured data.

Applying DevOps and CI / CD principles, you will streamline workflows and automate deployments. You will also lead the adoption of new tools, technologies, and frameworks to improve data infrastructure.

Mentoring junior team members, supporting their professional growth, and fostering a learning culture will be key responsibilities.

Requirements

• A completed technical WO or HBO education with WO-level thinking and working skills.
• 5+ years of experience in data engineering, including project leadership.
• Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, PySpark, or Scala, and frameworks like Apache Spark or Databricks.
• Experience designing and implementing data pipelines, data lakes, and data warehouses (e.g., Azure Synapse, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric).
• Expertise in cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, or GCP, focusing on scalable and cost-efficient architectures.
• Familiarity with streaming data solutions (Kafka, Event Hub, etc.).
• Knowledge of database management (SQL and NoSQL) and advanced querying techniques.
• Strong leadership skills with experience managing or mentoring teams.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills under tight deadlines.
• Clear communication skills to translate technical concepts into business value.
• Professional proficiency in Dutch and English.
