Facilities Engineer
Responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of facilities, utilities, and manufacturing support systems within a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment. The role focuses on leading daily maintenance operations, improving equipment reliability, and ensuring building services, utilities, and mechanical systems operate efficiently while meeting EHS and GxP requirements. Responsibilities include preventive and corrective maintenance, contractor supervision, facilities and maintenance projects, equipment excellence initiatives, energy efficiency improvements, CAPA and compliance support, budget and cost management, and identifying operational risks to minimize downtime and maintain business continuity.
Non-Negotiable Skills, Qualifications, and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or another relevant technical discipline
- 5–7 years of experience in Facilities Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, or Technical Operations
- Experience working in a GMP, GxP, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, or other regulated manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of Facilities Engineering, Utilities, Maintenance Operations, EHS, and Quality Management
- Experience managing preventive and corrective maintenance of building utilities, manufacturing equipment, and facility systems
- Strong troubleshooting skills for facility services, utilities, and mechanical/electromechanical equipment
- Experience supervising contractors and coordinating maintenance or facilities projects
- Experience monitoring KPIs, maintenance performance, and project budgets
- Fluent English (written and spoken)
Desirable Skills, Qualifications, and Experience
- Experience leading equipment reliability or operational excellence programs
- Experience with energy reduction or sustainability projects
- Knowledge of CAPA, Change Control, and regulatory compliance within GxP environments
- Experience managing construction, installation, or facility upgrade projects
- Experience supporting laboratory or manufacturing support systems
- Master's degree (MS) or MBA
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Flexible and service-oriented approach to supporting cross-functional teams
Practicalities
- Start Date: ASAP
- Contract Duration: 6 months (with possibility of extension)
- Location: Leiden, Netherlands
- Hours: 40 hours per week
- Work Arrangement: On-site
