Your mission
As a Mechanical Designer in our fast-moving start-up team, you take ownership of the design, realization, and testing of mechanical systems, modules, and components for our products and prototypes. Working closely with Senior Designers, the System Architect, Project Manager, and multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will help translate ambitious concepts into robust, manufacturable solutions used within advanced manufacturing and semiconductor-related applications.
This role offers the opportunity to further develop your career within a technically challenging environment, gaining exposure to highly sophisticated precision systems while working alongside experienced engineers on cutting-edge technology.
In this role, you organize your own work efficiently, participate actively in design reviews and technical discussions, and contribute to technical decision-making. You combine strong mechanical fundamentals with hands-on execution, a collaborative mindset, and the flexibility needed in a small high-tech environment.
Here’s how you’ll contribute:
- Design, realize, and test mechanical parts, modules, assemblies, and system components in line with project and departmental procedures.
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models, engineering documentation, and technical design data.
- Take ownership of your assigned work package by executing the agreed approach and planning your activities. Monitor progress and proactively identify and mitigate risks, delays, and quality issues.
- Organize and participate in design reviews for your own modules with colleagues, and actively participate in reviews with the broader engineering team and System Architect.
- Contribute to process documentation, work instructions, control plans, qualification reports, and engineering documentation.
- Support prototype builds, testing activities, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and rapid design iterations.
- Perform tolerance analysis and apply GD&T principles to ensure robust and manufacturable designs.
- Support FMEA activities and contribute to structured engineering problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Clearly communicate technical approaches, design choices, trade-offs, and risks to internal team members, management, and suppliers.
- Collaborate across R&D, applications, and engineering teams, integrating mechanical designs with electronics, software, and manufacturing while ensuring effective cross-disciplinary alignment.
- Contribute to both new product development projects and the continuous improvement of existing products and platforms.
- Potential international travel to customers and manufacturing sites.
Your expertise and qualities
We’re looking for a Mechanical Designer with a solid foundation in designing and delivering mechanical systems in a high-tech environment, combined with strong execution skills and a proactive attitude.
To be successful, you have the following experience:
- Bachelor’s degree with 4–7 years or a Master’s degree with 2–5 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Experience designing complex mechanical systems, machinery, precision modules, or advanced equipment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical tolerances, GD&T, material selection, and precision engineering principles.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical part manufacturability and mechanical assembly design.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling, preferably NX and Teamcenter.
- Practical experience with DFM, DFA, and FMEA methodologies.
- Familiarity with root-cause analysis and structured engineering problem-solving approaches.
- Ability to perform theoretical studies of critical parameters and make sound technical trade-offs.
- Open to feedback, constructive in reviews, and able to clearly articulate and advocate design ideas with colleagues and suppliers.
- Strong proficiency in English; Dutch is a plus.
Nice-to-have experience:
- Thermal and/or mechanical simulation experience.
- Familiarity with semiconductor equipment and manufacturing environments.
- Understanding of cleanroom-compatible design and particle generation prevention.
- Experience within precision machinery, scientific instrumentation, photonics, automation equipment, mechatronics, semiconductor equipment, or other advanced technology sectors.
