The Director Strategy and Sustainability will lead the development of long-term strategic plans for our Label Materials business in the EMENA region (Europe, Middle East and North Africa), where sustainability is a key part of our strategy. The jobholder closely interacts with the Senior Vice President and General Manager for the Region. He/she is part of the Marketing leadership team and works with the relevant functions and business leaders to assess business challenges and opportunities and drive implementation of strategic initiatives. In particular, the jobholder takes responsibility for our sustainability and market intelligence efforts. She/he will be based in Oegstgeest, The Netherlands, (Amsterdam/The Hague area) and report directly to the Vice President Marketing EMENA, with a dotted line to the Global Sustainability leader.

You will:

• Be a key thought partner to the SVP/GM for EMENA and other members of the regional leadership team identifying and leading key strategic initiatives, including implementation.
• Continuously drive Avery Dennison’s sustainability strategy, together with the Marketing & R&D leadership teams set-up priorities for product development, communication and ecosystem engagement.
• Act as a sustainability thought leader representing Avery Dennison both internally and externally.
• Lead the annual strategic planning process: shape the storyline, structure the work, support and challenge the functional leaders with their workstreams, make sure financial projections tie back to the strategy.
• Lead the representation of Avery Dennison across influencing associations (recycling bodies, industry associations, etc).
• Continuously enhance market intelligence knowledge, including packaging trends and competitor behavior.
• Partner with peers in Marketing, R&D and Procurement teams to help them take a long-term view while leveraging their business experience.
• Act as an internal consultant helping strengthen the thinking and plans across the business where appropriate.
• Accountable for Avery Dennison’s liner recycling program, oversee annual planning, marketing materials and recycler network expansion.
• Work closely with the organization to identify acquisition opportunities which could help accelerate our strategies.
• Build and lead a team of high-performance individuals (7 FTEs).

We are looking for a high potential with 5-10 years of related work experience in management consulting. Experience working in a corporation is a plus. This individual should have a hands-on attitude, be ready to dive deep into the business and can manage both long-term growth and short-term operational improvements. The candidate should be a strong team player able to influence without authority.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s degree or PhD in science, engineering, business administration or economics.
• 5-10 years of professional experience in Management Consulting (manager level) and, possibly, corporate roles with a focus on strategy, business development and/or marketing.
• Collaborative work style and strong team player putting the success of the team ahead of own personal interests.
• Comfortable to work in a technical environment (material science) and desire to understand technical issues.
• Can do attitude: strong personal drive and ability to work independently in multiple environments/cultures and get things done.
• Outstanding analytic and problem-solving skills with affinity for quantitative modeling.
• Prior experience in Sustainability and Packaging is a plus.
• Strong oral and written communications; comfortable with presenting to top management.
• Solid understanding of financial reporting (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow etc.).
• Able to work at all levels of the organization and represent Avery Dennison in negotiations with business partners and acquisition targets.
• Good business judgment with constant desire to learn.
• Excellent project management and team leadership skills.
