Lecturer in Quantitative Methods (Statistics / Mathematics)

Introduction

The Department of Technology & Operations Management at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM), invites applications for a Lecturer position in Quantitative Methods, with a particular focus on Statistics. The position is primarily teaching-oriented and offers the opportunity to contribute to high quality, large-scale undergraduate education.

Job description

As Lecturer, your responsibilities will be centered around teaching and education. You will:

• Teach quantitative courses in Year 1 of the BSc International Business Administration and BSc Bedrijfskunde programmes, and premaster programmes. This includes Probability and Statistics and potentially Mathematics.

• Contribute to the development, coordination, and continuous improvement of quantitative courses in our programmes

• Support course design, assessment, and curriculum innovation

• Thesis supervision for the MSc Supply Chain Management

• Work closely with colleagues to align course content and assessment across programmes.

Teaching activities are typically concentrated in specific teaching periods, requiring good planning and coordination. In addition, you are expected to contribute to the academic community by participating in departmental meetings and collaborative teaching initiatives.

Job requirements

We are looking for candidates who:

• Hold a Master’s degree (PhD strongly preferred) in a relevant field (e.g., Econometrics, Operations Research, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline)

• Have strong quantitative skills and the ability to teach Statistics at undergraduate level

• Demonstrate excellence or clear potential in teaching and student engagement

• Are comfortable teaching in both Dutch and international classroom settings (Dutch and English proficiency is required)

• Are collegial and willing to contribute to team-based teaching and course coordination

• Demonstrable skills in computer languages, specifically R or Python, is preferred

Experience with teaching large and diverse student cohorts is an advantage.

The start date of this position is 1 September 2026/to be agreed and you will be based at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM). This position is for 0.8 fte - 1 fte. The salary is dependent on your experience and knowledge and ranges from a minimum of €3,546 to a maximum of € 5,538 gross per month Scale 10 (without PhD) or € 4,728 to a maximum of € 6,433 gross per month Scale 11 (with PhD) on a full-time basis (38 hours), in accordance with the CAO-NU. The contract is offered for a period of 1 year and can be converted into an employment contract for an indefinite period if suitability is proven and if continued in the same position, if (financial and/or organisational) circumstances remain the same.

Upon strong performance and continued development, promotion to a more senior teaching role may be possible in the longer term.
