Teach Political Science and Economics in a Liberal Arts and Sciences environment.
Do you enjoy teaching working in an interdisciplinary academic environment? We invite you to join the team of teacher-scholars at University College Utrecht (UCU). As a Liberal Arts and Sciences institution, UCU brings together students with diverse academic interests and backgrounds.
Teaching takes place in small, interactive classes of no more than 28 students, allowing instructors to engage closely with students through a variety of innovative and student-centered teaching methods.
Your job
As an interdisciplinary and flexible academic teacher you will contribute to both the Political Science and Economics tracks at University College Utrecht. In this role, you will teach and supervise students across both disciplines in a stimulating Liberal Arts and Sciences environment.
Within the Political Science track, you will teach the first-year course: Political Theory, introducing students to the major traditions of Western political thought (from Plato and Machiavelli to Locke and Arendt) while also engaging with institutional, feminist, non-Western and critical perspectives. The course provides an essential foundation for students continuing in the Political Science track, while also serving students from across the Liberal Arts and Sciences programme.
Within the Economics track, you will teach the intermediate-level course: Economics of the Public Sector. This course explores political economy, public choice and public finance from a predominantly microeconomic perspective. You will also supervise Bachelor’s theses in both Political Science and Economics. Depending on teaching needs and your expertise, you may also co-teach a qualitative research methods course, guiding students through the design and execution of an independent research project.
Your qualities
You are a motivated scholar with a PhD in Political Science, Economics, Political Economy, Political Philosophy or a closely related field. Your expertise bridges political science and economics, and you are able to connect classical approaches with contemporary debates. You are expected to take up the position at short notice. If you are already based in the Netherlands, or can otherwise start without significant delay, we especially encourage you to apply.
