The Role of the Director, Sustainable Finance

As a Director, Sustainable Finance, you will take on a critical leadership role within Systemiq’s fastest-growing platform. You will be responsible for shaping and driving the strategic direction of the Sustainable Finance platform, leading high-impact projects, and managing senior relationships with key stakeholders, including banks, institutional investors, private equity, and policymakers.

In this role, you will provide strategic oversight across multiple complex, multi-stakeholder projects, ensuring alignment with Systemiq’s mission and goals. You will be a key player in scaling the platform, working closely with the leadership team to identify and pursue new opportunities for growth and impact. Your work will influence the direction of the financial sector’s transition towards sustainable and regenerative business models, particularly in climate-aligned finance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership : Define and implement the strategic vision for the Sustainable Finance platform, ensuring it aligns with Systemiq’s overarching goals and the evolving landscape of sustainable finance.
  • Client and Stakeholder Management : Lead and manage high-level engagements with financial institutions, government bodies, NGOs, and industry leaders to drive the adoption of sustainable finance practices.
  • Project Oversight : Provide strategic oversight and guidance on key projects, ensuring that they deliver high-impact outcomes. This includes working closely with project teams to steer complex advisory projects and coalition-building initiatives.
  • Platform Growth : Identify and pursue opportunities to expand the platform’s influence and reach, including new business opportunities, partnerships, and innovative approaches to sustainable finance.
  • Team Leadership : Mentor and develop the Sustainable Finance team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation. Oversee the management of teams across multiple geographies.
  • Thought Leadership : Act as a spokesperson for Systemiq on sustainable finance, representing the company at high-profile conferences, in the media, and in key client discussions.
  • Financial Stewardship : Ensure the platform’s financial sustainability by overseeing budget management, resource allocation, and investment in strategic initiatives.

The Mindset, Skills & Experience We Are Looking For

  • 10+ years of professional experience in relevant fields : (advisory / consulting, strategy, thought leadership / research, project management, investment) with significant experience in sustainable finance.
  • 5+ years in a leadership role with a proven track record of managing senior teams and influencing organizational strategy.
  • Deep expertise in sustainable finance, with a comprehensive understanding of key concepts, including climate-aligned finance, ESG, and impact investing.
  • Experience leading complex, multi-stakeholder projects and driving consensus across diverse groups.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate and influence at the highest levels.
  • Proven ability to grow a business unit or platform, including identifying and capitalizing on new opportunities.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with experience in public speaking and representing an organization externally.
  • Passion for SYSTEMIQ’s mission and a deep commitment to sustainability and system change.
