Energy Storage Engineer

Whom are we looking for?

To support our rapid growth, we are seeking an experienced individual who has a background in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related field to support our R&D activities as a dedicated Energy Storage Engineer.

The ideal candidate has a comprehensive understanding of batteries, power converters, electronics and of the various sub-components involved in energy storage systems. They should also preferably possess relevant hands-on experience in installations, maintenance, and/or manufacturing of relevant electro/mechanical systems.

To be successful in this role, you are expected to:

• Draft energy storage technical specifications and requirements;
• Size energy storage system and design system engineering;
• Create electrical drawings, including site layouts and schematics;
• Provide technical input into supplier and contractor RFI/RFP/tender packs;
• Provide technical support to deliver installations in conjunction with the Project Management and on-site Field Engineering Teams;
• Create energy storage guidelines/documentation for the standardization of design, installation and maintenance of our product range across the company;
• Provide support to Field Engineering teams and installation partners as required;
• Conduct technical due diligence (in relation to energy storage products, or project/portfolio acquisitions) considering engineering, social, financial and safety-related matters;
• Evaluate different energy storage technologies and configurations based on technical and financial parameters;
• Provide input into energy storage testing methods and performance evaluation mechanisms;
• Participate in energy storage commissioning and testing activities, including support during testing, test outcome validation and reporting of test results against contractual requirements;
• Conduct battery cell/module/ESS testing activities as required;
• Ensure safety aspects are understood by project participants, and that appropriate measures are put in place with specification, design, commissioning, and ongoing system operation to reflect the high safety standards of the company;
• Provide input into contract technical schedules (for contracts such as supply and commissioning contracts), including drafting wording / contractual mechanisms;
• Conduct technical review and feedback of proposals (such as energy storage vendor proposals);
• Liaise directly with energy storage suppliers, customers and other third parties;
• Contribute to supplier quality and safety compliance control and evaluation.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent level of qualification in Electrical Engineering or related discipline;
• Proficient knowledge of English language;
• Relevant Industry experience in energy storage, renewable/power industry (gained for example in EPC, OEM or technical consultancy setting);
• Knowledge of electrical systems design (12V to 1500 V), ideally specifically related to energy storage and grid connections;
• Experience in AutoCAD for layouts and single line diagrams;
• Affinity with utility-scale battery chemistries and key performance indicators;
• Affinity with utility-scale energy storage use cases and balance of plant technology;
• Proficient knowledge of safety relating to energy storage and technological best-practices;
• Proficient knowledge of utility-scale energy storage system architectures and management systems;
• Understanding of IEC standards related to utility-scale energy storage and balance of plant (system/component design, safety, testing, environmental);
• Proven analytical skills and attention to details;
• Strong Health & Safety awareness and strict adherence to industry H&S policy in all aspects of the work.
